A true Mexican serenade

Last Thursday night I experienced firsthand a real serenading. The serenader was Cesar, and the serenadee was none other but my roommate Ivonne. At 3:00 in the morning, I woke up to the sounds of singing and a guitar outside my door. It was Cesar, standing at the top of the stairs and singing to Ivonne a song he wrote for her. In his words, "it is tradition for a Mexican to sing to the girl he loves," and truly I was a witness to the sweet way in which he fell in love and tried to win her over. It's refreshing to see a little old fashioned romance!
